Though the advocacy groups like NOW have tried hard for about twenty years to stop the gender based violence and sexual assault, the rate of violence against women has not decreased. The violence is of different forms like Domestic, sexual etc. Intimate partner violence or battering is a very abusive behavior where one partner gains power and control over the intimate partner. Studies indicate that about 4.8 million battering and rapes occur every year. Much sexual violence is not even reported to the police either for victim’s feelings or they think that nothing can be done about it and they ignore it.
